Seek First the Kingdom

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Matthew 6:33

I’m meditating on this scripture today and applying it to my life. It is VERY relevant to my current season. For those of you who don’t know, I moved from Waco to Dallas in August 2022. It has been a journey to say the least! A lot of unexpected twists and turns, and yet, I have gone without lack. No, I haven’t made a ton of money since I’ve gotten here. Yes, I’ve had to be frugal. No, I have not been able to afford all the things I used to splurge on. But I have not been in lack.

Matthew 6:25-34 NIV Bible Gateway

Is He not the God who takes care of all living things? Is He not the one that keeps the Earth on its axis? Is He not the one who keeps the ocean from overflowing?

If He can take care of all of creation, I can trust Him with my life.

Moving to Dallas has meant leaving behind a community I love, a job I enjoyed, a ministry that was thriving. In fact, everything was building up and getting better right before I left! it costed me to leave.

But yet, He says. “Seek first…and the rest will be added…”

“Seek first” has looked like obeying His voice when He asked me to lay down jobs I’ve wanted to get in Dallas.

“Seek first” has meant hours in the prayer room at church.

“Seek first” has meant ministering to His heart and wasting many hours with Him rather than a practical 9-5.

“Seek first” has looked like creating a coloring book that was heavily prayed over, spending hours painting and creating content for TikTok, rebuilding this website.

“Seek first” has meant saying no to amazing opportunities.

And yet. He has taken care of me.

I have no lack.

…and when I get anxious…

He reminds me to “seek first” and reminds me of His faithfulness.

I have everything I need, and I press forward, knowing that He will bring to completion what He has started. He is the one giving me wisdom on how to make money as a full-time artist. He is the one miraculously providing when I take time to minister to Him instead of working.

He is truly Lord over my life. And He is SO GOOD.

I’m starting to learn what Paul meant when He wrote Philippians 4:11-13-

“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”

Come what may, I choose to “seek first His kingdom” and He will handle the rest.
